Hello!

I’m Michael Smith, a Creative Director with a focus on digital art direction and web design. My passion for creative goes well beyond just calling it my profession. It’s something I’ve carried around with me since I was a kid growing up in Alaska.

For many, “getting creative” in Alaska translated into improving on or finding a unique solution to survive. That sounds harsh, but it’s kind of true. Watching people constantly innovate and be makers was something that always had me excited and eventually unlocked the door to the creative world for me, specifically to the digital creative world. The parallel between Alaska survival mode and the digital landscape of continually innovating and expanding to make better or just to survive, keeps me in this perpetual nerd out moment.

But enough of my history, the present consists of Boston being my home, Tom Brady being my spirit animal, and always counting down to the summer months. I travel as much and as far as possible to keep pushing myself to experience new people and places and find inspiration I had no idea about until the plane ride home. Some quick artsy checkboxes to go through, I enjoy the pain of an oil painting project, I’m horrible at Pictionary, and my new found love is wood working and making replica model tall ships (a peek into my future retirement hobby).

Hopefully you’ve read every single word above, but if you skimmed over like I would have, here’s the TL;DR option below from a fantastic book, “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck” by Mark Manson. It’s all about finding purpose in the journey to creating something great. I highly recommend the read. Cheers.
