LYSOL
WEBSITE REDESIGN & DIGITAL BRANDING
Catching up to AN emerging science
Lysol found themselves in critical need of a new website and they needed it fast. As the global pandemic raged on, Lysol products quickly propelled into the world spotlight for being one of the only brands in existence to claim “tested and proven to kill Covid-19.” The new site needed to not just offer products, but it needed to serve as a resource center for people all around the world desperate to come and learn about germs, viruses, and how to combat them through proper disinfecting techniques and healthy cleaning habits.
Designing for the new normal
The new site had to provide resources and cleaning tips to achieve becoming an insightful destination for consumers in need of information. Also keeping in mind, there would come a time when the information would no longer be at the center of the news or at the start of everyone’s small talk. In order to create a system that wouldn’t be outdated the moment the world stands on the other side of the pandemic, this needed to be flexible enough to showcase wide varieties of content.
Flexibility came together in two ways; streamline the content into short, punchy, skimmable layouts and inspire through imagery, animation, and video wherever possible. Creating layouts with these two approaches as the foundation allowed the site to successfully display diverse content while feeling part of one family.
The Pièce de Résistance
To further future-proof the new site direction, there was a need for getting real with their main target demographic – parents. Getting real with them didn’t mean using the same words they can find on parent blogs, but actually showing some messy moments, tastefully of course. Lives are busy, houses are messy, and Lysol centers their products on helping get the nasty stuff out quickly so you can get back to your regiment.
An idea of “pops of parenting” came into play from this and it was created to visually reinforce moments of storytelling by including small items found around the home that need to be disinfected by parents.
